Повышенное внимание уделено инициативе британских церквей, и в первую очередь государственной Церкви Англии, создавшей основу начального обучения в Англии в XVIII в. и опекавшей специальные заведения для детей с ограниченными возможностями, а также благотворительные женские школы. Показано, что в XX в. контроль Церквей над школами постепенно ослабевал, ввиду усиления секуляризации и демократизации образования. На практике это обусловливалось школьной политикой партий – в пользу продвижения современной системы обучения, учитывающей достижения научного прогресса.
При научном подходе к теме монография написана в формате научно-популярного издания. Схемы, данные в приложении, прослеживают процесс реформирования школьного образования с 1870-1997 гг.
